The Importance of World Cancer Day

February 4, 2022, is World Cancer Day. The theme for 2022 - 2024 is 'Close the Care Gap'.

February 4, 2022, is World Cancer Day

2022 focuses on understanding and recognizing the inequities in cancer care around the globe. There are real barriers that people living with cancer are up against. Some are income, education, location and discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, and lifestyle.

Do you know how this day got its start?

Do you know why it is so important?

Listen to my latest podcast episode. I answer the questions above, and I talk more about the gaps in cancer care.

You may know someone who has been diagnosed or touched by cancer. Please take a moment to reflect on how you can help spark change.

Below are some ideas on how to get started.

  1. Learn more about cancer, how you can reduce your cancer risks, and the impact it has on the people we love, our communities, and the world.

  2. Reach out to someone you know who has cancer and offer your support.

  3. Create a social media post about World Cancer day and share your personal story.

  4. Write a blog post or record a video message showing your support.

  5. Participate in activities or volunteer.

  6. Write to your political parties asking them to show their commitment, raise public awareness, and take action.

It is never too late, and every bit helps!
