Your Personalized Support to Navigate Cancer

we offer a FREE 45-minute

Receiving a diagnosis of cancer is often a devastating surprise and the most stressful event one ever experiences. Feeling overwhelmed, depressed, at a loss for explanations, and bewildered by how to navigate a complex healthcare system is a perfectly normal response.

Things seem to be moving at the speed of lightning while your mind is still trying to digest the words, "You have cancer". I remember when I heard those words in 2011. It was like the person on the other end of the phone was speaking another language that I did not understand. Then came the flood of emotions and questions.

I had a good support system and my oncologist and I had a great partnership. However, there was still something missing. I still felt alone in some ways because I never truly felt like those around me understood what I was going through or how I was feeling. Of course, it was not their fault. How could they possibly know? It was not something that they had experienced. They could not let me know what to expect and lead the way.

Nobody understands what you are going through quite like another cancer survivor. This support is a critical part of your recovery. Cancer is a physical disease that can have a major impact on your mental health and social well-being.

As your personal cancer doula, I can bridge the gap between the emotional and medical sides of cancer and guide you through the steps to help you stay focused on healing and improving your quality of life.

Personal Cancer Doula support is for you if:

  • You want to be empowered!

  • You want guidance and support from someone who has been where you are.

  • You want help navigating the health care system.

  • You want a goal-oriented action plan to help manage barriers and challenges that come up.

  • You want to have the tools and confidence to effectively advocate for yourself.

  • You want help working through your emotions, focusing on problem-solving strategies in a supportive environment, working through grief, fear, and other emotions, which prevent you from getting stuck so that you can focus on healing.

  • You want strategies based on experience and tools to change the narrative and create a more meaningful, less awkward engagement with family, friends, and co-workers.

  • You want to prevent drowning in information and becoming overwhelmed.

  • You want to save yourself time, effort, and energy by allowing your personal cancer doula to do the research to find information about your type of cancer, the treatments that are recommended by your doctor, and the resources to support you on your journey.

"If you or someone you know is dealing with cancer, things are undoubtedly distressing. Talaya Dendy has the most calming presence of anyone I know, let alone knowledgeable about what there is to know about cancer- being a survivor herself. My brother-in-law was really touched by Talaya's workbook that I gifted him. Talaya is amazing."
