Beyond the celebration: Why We’re Building the Future of Survivorship

Today is a milestone day.

For many years, I have walked the path of a cancer thriver, and I have stood by others as a Cancer Doula and Board-Certified Patient Advocate. Today, I am taking that mission a step further.

In honor of Podcasthon 2026, I am officially releasing a special episode of Navigating Cancer TOGETHER and relaunching the fundraiser for a project that has been a spark in my heart for a long time: The Survivor Series with Talaya Dendy.

The Myth of the Finish Line

We have all seen the videos of patients ringing the bell to signal the end of treatment. It is a beautiful, hard-earned moment. But what we don’t talk about enough is what happens when the echoes of that bell stop.

For many, the "all-clear" is where the real work of healing begins.

Survivorship is often a "lonely desert." The medical team moves on, the initial wave of support begins to recede, and the survivor is left standing in a landscape that looks the same but feels entirely different. There is a huge, undeniable gap in psychosocial support for the identity shift that occurs after the treatment phase ends.

Survivorship isn't always a joyous occasion, and that is ok!

The "Gumbo of Emotions"

In today’s special episode, I talk about the "Gumbo of Emotions" we face as survivors. Everyone’s ingredients, the traumas, the questions, the fears are different. But the common thread is a struggle to move from "what happened" to "what’s next."

The Survivor Series is my answer to that struggle. We are moving away from the extremes of forced positivity or tragic pity. Instead, we are building a global home for truth, authentic community, and agency.

Building on a Foundation of Discovery

The Survivor Series is the natural evolution of a conversation we have been having for the past year. If you want to dive deeper into the "unfiltered reality" we are addressing, I invite you to explore some of our previous connections and conversations on life after cancer:

These stories and insights are the solid foundation of what we are building now.

Why Your Support Matters

The Survivor Series is proudly fiscally sponsored by the Association of Independents in Radio (AIR), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This means your contribution is a tax-deductible investment in a more purposeful future for survivors everywhere.

Your support directly funds:

  • Professional Production: High-quality storytelling that reaches a global audience.

  • Expert Panels: Survivor voices addressing the "taboo" realities of post-treatment and post-cancer life.

  • Global Workshops: Tools for those navigating the fog of the "lonely desert."

Join the Movement

If this important work resonates with you, please consider supporting this vision for the future of survivorship with a tax-deductible contribution.

Ideally, the"all-clear" marks the beginning of life on the other side of cancer, a journey that is rich, supported, and empowered. Let's make "not talking about these realities" taboo.

Thank you for helping us navigate this journey, TOGETHER!
